How to Prepare Your Square Card Artwork

Set up your artwork at the correct Marketplace size, resolution and bleed before you upload it.

About 5 minutesSquare cards300 DPI required

Get the artwork setup right first

Preparing your file correctly before uploading helps your card print cleanly and makes the moderation process much smoother.

15.4 cm wide

Your artwork file should be 15.4 cm wide.

15.6 cm high

Your artwork file should be 15.6 cm high.

300 DPI

Use a high-resolution JPG or PNG for print.

Marketplace square size

Although the finished card is square, the supplied artwork is slightly taller than it is wide because it includes the production bleed and fold allowance.

Understand the bleed

Your Marketplace artwork includes extra image area that is trimmed during production. This prevents unwanted white edges if the cut moves very slightly.

Top: 3 mm bleed

Background colours, patterns and images should continue all the way to the top edge.

Right: 3 mm bleed

Extend the background through the full right-hand bleed area.

Bottom: 3 mm bleed

Continue full-background artwork to the bottom edge.

Left: 1 mm bleed

The left edge only needs 1 mm because of the way the card is produced and folded.

What should go into the bleed?

Only background artwork should extend into the bleed. Keep wording, faces, logos, borders and other important details comfortably away from the trim edge.

Prepare your artwork step by step

1

Create your file at the Marketplace size

Set your artwork to 15.4 cm wide × 15.6 cm high. Keep this exact proportion when creating or resizing your design.

2

Work at 300 DPI

Your final artwork should be 300 DPI. Low-resolution images may look fine on a screen but can appear soft or pixelated when printed.

3

Extend backgrounds into the bleed

If your design has a coloured, patterned or photographic background, it must reach every edge of the artwork file. Do not stop the background at the intended trim line.

4

Keep important details safely inside

Keep text and important design elements away from the outside edges. Designs with text too close to the cut line, or borders that could look uneven after trimming, may need adjusting before they can be approved.

5

Check your colours

For JPG artwork, design with print in mind and export the final upload as RGB/sRGB. Remember that screens are illuminated, so some colours can appear slightly different once printed on card.

6

Export as JPG or PNG

Export a high-quality JPG or PNG at 300 DPI. Before uploading, open the exported file and check that the artwork is sharp, the background reaches every edge and nothing important has moved or been cropped.
